🎙️ Season 2 • Episode 5: You Can't Predict Your Next Chapter
What would the version of you from ten years ago think if they could see your life today?
This week, I'm reflecting on transformation, emotional healing, self-discovery, and the surprising ways life unfolds when we stop trying to predict every step ahead.
From an orchestra metaphor that completely changed how I think about personal growth, to revisiting old wounds, unexpected love, and looking back on a decade I never could have imagined, this conversation is about becoming who we are...one experience at a time.
Maybe the future isn't something we're meant to figure out all at once.
Maybe it's enough to take the next step...and trust that the rest will unfold.
🎙️ Unfiltered with Love — honest conversations about love, relationships, growth, and everything in between.

Welcome to Unfiltered with Love. I'm your host, Carrie Love. I wasn't sure what I was going to talk about today. And usually I try to have a theme for the week, something that inspires me. The more I thought about it, there's been a few things this week probably that I could talk about. And so I decided I'm just going to talk about what's been going on this past week and fit the things in where they fit. And if they don't fit, then they don't. Just give you kind of like a little bit of an update on what I've been doing. I started back with my class. We were on a little hiatus there for about six weeks. And now we're back in class. And that's been pretty interesting. And the first class, the teacher was talking about transformation and about how the biggest things with people is you want to try to get people to have an awareness about things within themselves. And also then, once you have that awareness, then to integrate that into your life. And I thought that was pretty interesting. And she used an analogy of an orchestra. So different parts of yourself would be different instruments. And the whole goal is then to get all of those parts to play together like an orchestra. And I thought that was a pretty good analogy, and I really like that. So I think I'll use that in future when I'm trying to explain that to people because that is something I've been trying hard to explain. I've used in the past being multifaceted, like a gemstone or a diamond or something like that. I like that as well, but I think the orchestra makes more sense. It's easier to understand. Another thing that I saw this week that I thought was pretty interesting and made me reflect a lot was there was a posting online about if you could today in 2026 tell your 2016 self what has transpired over the last 10 years. Would you believe it? And I started reflecting back on my past 10 years, which has been crazy because I feel like I've jammed a lot of things in the last 10 years. So I don't know how I fit. I feel like I've done more in the past 10 years than I might have done my whole entire life. I don't know. I feel like I've I've fit a lot of things in there. You know, I've been divorced, I've had health issues, I've moved out of state, done a lot of different things in my life, working on different things in my life. So it's been quite an eventful 10 years. And I don't think that my 2016 self would believe it at all. I when in 2016 I was happily married, I would have never in a million years thought that I would have been divorced. If you would have told me that, I would have said, you're crazy. But here I am. Also, oddly enough, I probably shouldn't say this, but I'm gonna say it anyway. I don't think he listens to my podcast anyway, but I've been seeing someone, and I met him back in 2015, actually, when I was out with some friends, and I mean, just as a friend talking, things like that. And I always liked him and I and I always thought he was, I don't know, just he was he had a lot of the same interests, and uh I kind of liked his vibe, so we got along really well and we stayed in contact for years, just I mean, barely, intermittently through the years, and um just kind of like random, how are you, Merry Christmas type stuff, I guess. And after I got divorced, I was dating someone else for a few years and he was doing his own thing and dating other people, whatever. And uh after I broke up with this last person I was with, I decided to reach out to him and we started talking. So it's been a while now, but I am pretty sure if I would have told myself in 2016 that I would be talking to him now, I would have never ever believed that. Because I had at that point only known him a year, and even though, as I said, I thought he was pretty good, I was in a totally different time in my life, so wasn't really thinking on that kind of wavelength at that point. But just goes to show you how things happen and you don't know what's gonna happen in your life. You can't predict. I think that's important to realize because sometimes I feel we're always thinking about trying to think 10 steps ahead when really maybe we should only be thinking about one or two steps ahead because you don't know what's gonna happen 10 steps ahead. Even when I was going through everything I've gone through with divorce and everything, I remember thinking, what am I gonna do next year? And how am I gonna be in six months from now? And you really can't plan because life changes so much. Even in a day, things can change. Next week can be different than this week. So I try now to only look ahead maybe one or two steps instead of making myself overwhelmed thinking about what am I gonna do in a year or six months or how will I feel? Because you don't know how you're gonna feel at that point, because there's so much that happens and can happen within a small period of time that's not even worth worrying about until you have all the information at that time. So that's been something I've been thinking about this week a lot. What would I think about where I'm at now 10 years ago? And I'm always working on myself, obviously. I always have things come up, and I think just when I think I'm over something, then something happens to me, and I'm like, why am I revisiting this again? Didn't I already revisit this with myself? But no. No, something comes up, something that has to be addressed that I have to look at. I think that there's times when there's underlying triggers in our lives that, you know, I wonder, are we always going to have this trigger? Am I always gonna have this come back on me? How long do I have to keep revisiting the same pressure point when it comes up? How long do I have to keep going through this wound, this same wound? And we all have wounds and we all have points that are probably tender, for lack of a better word. And I've only figured this out this year, but mine has always been, I've always felt that I was always second choice. I've always felt that I was an option. Never been fully chosen as the number one. You know, I'm always the second place. I'm the girl that the person wants when they can't have the first person that they want, that kind of a feeling. And I don't know whether that's totally true or not, or just my narrative in my own head, but maybe a little bit of both. I think there's some experiences that I've had that actually reinforce that thinking. And maybe that's why I'm so sensitive about it. But yeah, so this week I've had to revisit that again, that feeling, which has been weird when that comes up again. Because, like I said, I have things that I've gone through and I think I've already gone through this. Why am I doing it again? But obviously, more stuff that I need to work on. And speaking of working on things, I have been working on an event for the spring, which I'm not totally, I don't have all the information yet to give, but I will be giving that out soon. I'm sure I will put it in one of my podcast episodes, but I am planning an event in the spring, which I'm excited for. And I'm also having a special guest come. She'll probably come sometime in August, maybe towards the end of August. She's from Italy, so it's been a little bit of a struggle to try to find our times right that we can mesh on the interview. But I'm very excited to have her as a guest. I've been wanting to have her for several months now. She posts a lot about uh modern dating and the different aspects of how hard it is to date these days and different things that have transpired over the years, the ways that people are now, as opposed to previous ways in the past that people have related to each other and how hard it has become with dating. So she has some really good insights, and I'm really excited to have her as a future guest. That's been my week. I look forward to see what this next week brings. I'm always surprised. I always tell people you never know what it's gonna be like a day in the life of me. So I hope you have a great week, and I look forward to talking with you again next week. Until then, this is Unfiltered with Love.
